Take the seaside bicycle trail and view the majestic Kumano-nada Sea while you ride. Start from the Ojigahama Coast down south by heading towards the sea along the Kumano-gawa River. On the way, stop by the exit of Koya-zaka Slope which is a part of the Kumano Kodo Nakahechi Route, and aim for the scenic points along the trail, like Kushima Island and Suzushima Island.
Head away from the downtown area - bike towards the mouth of the Kumano-gawa River, past the front of the Nenho-ji Temple until you find the concrete pathway along the coast
Whether you go fast or slow on the concrete track along the Ojigahama Coast, you'll be treated to a fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean to your left. Let the sea breeze and the wind behind your ears push you along as you enjoy the great scenery.
Right before coming to the Hirotsuno-Minami junction of Prefectural Route 231, take the narrow road that heads for the sea. Take a small break at the entrance of Koya-zaka Slope, which is part of the World Heritage Kumano Kodo trail.
After riding along the Kumano Kaido trail for a short while, you'll find yourself at Miwasaki Port. Ride past the many fishing boats anchored at the port and you'll soon arrive at the scenic spot of Suzushima Island.
Years of sea erosion have created some strange and mysterious shpaed rocks on the coastline, which make a great spectacle to view while you ride past. This trail will also lead you from Suzushima Island to Kushima Island.
Kushima Island is the finish line of this route. On the island you'll be able to see around 51 families and 120 species of plants, including orange river lilies. Try visiting Itsukushima-Jinja Shrine on the island before you leave to go back home.
