Regarding the 2023 Oto Matsuri Festival

First of all, Happy New Year to visitors both new and past!

With the reopening of Japan's borders from late last year, it has been a great joy to greet travellers from abroad once again in Shingu.

Secondly, the beginning of spring in the Kumano area means the Oto Matsuri Festival is also around the corner. Though for years many have participated in this historical and traditional festival, in order to comply with coronavirus restrictions, the participation of those climbing the mountain has been cancelled.

It has been decided that only the priests and those assisting with the event will be allowed to participate.

Therefore, unfortunately the Oto Matsuri Festival will not have regular participants for 2023.

We ask for your cooperation regarding the following points.

Note:

  1. Festival participants (noboriko), regular guests (including media) will be unable to enter the mountain.
  2. Please refrain from spectating the event from the area surrounding Taikobashi Bridge on the day.

We hope to welcome everyone again for the festival next year!
