Kuwanoki Falls

One of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan

Kuwanoki Falls is a 21-meter waterfall down the Kuwanoki Canyon, whose water eventually flows into the Kumano-gawa River. It is listed as one of the Top 100 Falls in Japan. "Kuwanoki" means "mulberry tree" in Japanese; the waterfall is surrounded by them. The waterfall can be reached via a walking trail from Prefectural Road 230, starting from Kuwanoki Bridge over the Takada-gawa River, and is a popular destination for hikers and sightseers.

Go over the bridge over Takada-gawa River into the mountain. Passing in front of Oga Hachiman-Jinja Shrine, going beyond the suspension bridge over the clear stream and aiming for upstream along the swamp, you will arrive at Kuwanoki Falls in approx. 20 minutes.

Oga Hachiman-Jinja Shrine

A shrine filled with spirits, where the rock wall appears to be the go-shintai (the object of worship for the shrine).

Clear Waters

Head upstream along the mountain stream, with clear waters as far as the eye can see.

Past the suspension bridge over the river, the path becomes steeper.
